Job Title: Optics Process Development Engineer

CV-Library is seeking a highly skilled Optics Process Development Engineer to join our team in Kempston, Bedford. As a key member of our multi-skilled team, you will be responsible for a wide range of tasks in the optical process development area.

Main Responsibilities:
  1. Develop and implement new processes for precision component grinding machines.
  2. Conduct machine pass off/verification tests at customer sites and provide technical support.
  3. Design and deliver customer training programs for our range of grinding machines.
  4. Lead new machine build and R&D projects, ensuring timely delivery and quality standards.
  5. Liaise effectively with project teams on a technical level, ensuring seamless collaboration.
  6. Assist with commissioning ultra-precision machine tools and troubleshoot any issues.
  7. Work within our ISO quality system, adhering to the highest standards of health and safety.
  8. Carry out any other reasonable duties as requested by the team.
Requirements:
  1. Relevant Engineering qualification in a Mechanical or Optical discipline, e.g. HNC/HND, C&G, BTEC, etc., or higher.
  2. Self-driven individual with a 'can-do' attitude, effective communication skills, and ability to work alone or as part of a team.
  3. Ability to problem-solve and fault-find in a logical and methodical manner, proficient with basic software packages.
  4. Full driving licence and passport to enable travel to customer sites - UK and overseas.
  5. Willingness to work additional hours as required by the customer and ability to manage own time and meet tight deadlines.
Desirable Skills:
  1. Ability to read, understand, interpret, and manufacture from optical, mechanical component, and electrical drawings.
  2. Understanding of optical metrology systems, ultra-precision machine tools, and on-board machine metrology systems.
  3. Understanding of machine calibration methods and adjustments, e.g. laser alignment, talyvels, straight edges, etc.
