Overview:

Service Care Legal is seeking a Strategic Finance Lead to join a Local Authority in Somerset on a temporary basis. This role is pivotal in delivering high-caliber financial and strategic accounting guidance to key services within the organization. The Strategic Finance Lead will play a crucial role in maintaining the financial integrity of the Local Authority, collaborating closely with the Service Director of Finance & Procurement to shape the financial strategy, evaluate investments, and ensure adherence to legal and regulatory standards.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Leadership: Provide clear direction to achieve strategic objectives and financial goals as a member of the Senior Leadership Team.
  • Team Development: Lead and nurture the Strategic Finance Team, promoting a culture of continuous improvement, inclusivity, and high employee morale.

Strategic Financial Oversight:

Direct and synchronize financial strategy, encompassing budget formulation, budget oversight, and tax planning. Ensure compliance with financial regulations and best practices while offering strategic financial insights and analyses to facilitate informed decision-making.

Establish necessary governance frameworks and reporting mechanisms for strategic finance, ensuring adherence to statutory obligations and maintaining best practice standards across financial operations.


Capital and Investment Oversight:

Supervise the Council's capital initiatives, investment strategies, and treasury management functions. Ensure proficient management of investments to optimize returns, mitigate risks, and support the Council's long-term financial objectives.

Possess extensive knowledge of local government finance, including a comprehensive understanding of local government funding mechanisms and pension schemes.
