Position Title: Technical Support Officer

Salary: S01 £32, £33,945.00

A position has opened within the Highways and Transportation Technical Support team for a Technical Support Officer, tasked with assisting the three highways depots across the City.

This role presents an exciting opportunity to engage in the responsive frontline services of Highways Depots, which are accountable for activities such as gritting, flood management, emergency pothole repairs, and scheduled works on the highway.

This position is diverse, encompassing responsibilities such as personnel management, procurement of materials and equipment, and disseminating Highways reports for planned activities until completion.

Expect a dynamic work environment where no two days are alike.

The role is primarily based at our Seacroft and Pottery Fields depots on a rotational schedule. While flexible working arrangements are available, a presence in the office is required during operational hours: 7:30 am – 3:30 pm from Monday to Thursday and 7:30 am – 3:00 pm on Fridays.

This is a full-time position, comprising 37 hours per week, with an annual leave entitlement of 26 days, increasing to 31 days after five years of continuous service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily operations of staff providing administrative support to Seacroft, Henshaw, and Pottery Fields depots, including material procurement through contracted suppliers and payroll documentation for Highways Operatives.
  • Deliver a Technical Support Service to Depot Managers regarding Traffic Management Act duties.
  • Supervise and participate in receiving instructions from sites for the delivery of materials and services, placing purchase orders with contracted suppliers, and liaising with the Purchasing Agency to resolve delivery and quality issues.
  • Manage payroll documentation processing, record absences, and compile data for payroll purposes.
  • Allocate job numbers related to client work and prepare documentation for claims from plant hire companies.
  • Ensure effective systems are in place for ordering plant and materials, adhering to the annual budget.
  • Monitor performance and support the management of highway works-related data.
  • Daily management of purchase card orders and deputize for the Technical Support Manager as needed.
  • Maintain knowledge of statutory TMA regulations and local government functions.
