Job Summary:

Rayner Intraocular Lenses is seeking a highly skilled Optical Design Engineer to join our team. As an Optical Design Engineer, you will play a critical role in the research and development of innovative implantable medical devices and pharmaceutical products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the research, design, development, manufacturing, and testing of implantable medical devices and pharmaceutical products.
  • Work in multidisciplinary project teams from across the company and collaborate externally with surgeons, inventors, research groups, and universities.
  • Contribute to the development of optical design, prototype development, and testing, as well as specification development for intraocular lenses.
  • Provide technical input within cross-departmental project teams to develop new ophthalmic products from concept feasibility to full-scale manufacturing.
  • Critically assess the company's products, processes, and systems to improve effectiveness, quality, and efficiency.
  • Interact with customers (internal and external, including medical professionals) to better understand their needs and improve current products, drive innovation, and nurture collaborations that lead to future new product development opportunities.

Requirements:

  • Masters or PhD in a science or engineering field.
  • 3+ years of experience with Zemax optical design software.
  • 3+ years of experience with MATLAB software.
  • Experience working within a multidisciplinary project team.
  • Ability to interpret patient optometry data, biometry, and refraction information (desirable).
  • Working knowledge of medical device regulations, including the Medical Devices Directive.
