Senior Electro Optical Design Engineer

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team at Rayner Surgical Group as a Senior Electro Optical Design Engineer. As a key member of our design team, you will play a crucial role in the research, design, development, and testing of implantable medical devices and pharmaceutical products.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the design and development of optical systems for intraocular lenses, working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure successful product launches.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, inventors, research groups, and universities to stay at the forefront of optical design and innovation.
  • Develop and implement advanced optics knowledge to solve complex technical issues and challenges across new product development, product improvement, and manufacturing projects.
  • Perform risk assessments to determine the likelihood of harmful effects resulting from new or modified products and processes.
  • Develop and maintain Design Verification and Validation Protocols and techniques.
  • Share expertise and research findings with other scientific and technical staff to drive business-wide innovation.
  • Interact with customers, including medical professionals, to understand their needs and drive innovation.
  • Provide guidance, support, and training to project team members.
Requirements:
  • Masters or PhD in physics or a relevant technical discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience with Zemax optical design software and MATLAB.
  • Expert knowledge of optical design principles and test methods.
  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary project team.
  • Ability to work autonomously and on your own initiative.
  • Zemax optical design - user-defined surface DLL development.
  • Working knowledge of medical device regulations, including the Medical Devices Directive.
  • Ability to interpret patient optometry data, biometry, and refraction information.
  • Comfortable interacting with clinical staff in healthcare environments.
  • Experience working in an intraocular lens company designing and developing innovative ophthalmic products and processes.
