About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join our team at a lovely special school in Okehampton. As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with social, emotional, and mental health challenges, as well as those with autism, ADHD, attachment issues, and speech and language difficulties.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide general classroom support, including one-to-one assistance and small group interventions as needed.
  • Assist the teacher with lesson planning, resource gathering, and activity set up.
  • Ensure the safety and wellbeing of all students, promoting a secure and supportive environment.
  • Effectively manage student behaviour and address individual needs in accordance with EHCPs.
  • Support students in accessing the curriculum, helping them to overcome barriers to learning.
About You
  • Previous experience working with children in the UK, whether in early years, primary, or secondary education.
  • A strong understanding of special educational needs and strategies to support young people.
  • Resilient, adaptable, hardworking, and possess a good sense of humour.
  • A willingness to develop your knowledge and skills further.
  • Ability to adapt to changing plans at short notice.
  • Able to drive and have access to your own vehicle.
