Consultant Psychiatrist in Learning Disability

About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Consultant Psychiatrist to join our team at Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust. As a Consultant Psychiatrist in Learning Disability, you will be responsible for providing high-quality psychiatric care to adults with learning disabilities living in Hillingdon.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide a Consultant Psychiatric service for adults with Learning Disabilities living in Hillingdon.
- Ensure, support and develop the provision of ongoing psychiatric input to people with Learning Disabilities living in the community.
- Attend community team referrals and complex case reviews, community team clinical governance and management meetings.
- Provide a Consultant Psychiatric service for people with a Learning Disability who may be admitted on Frays and Crane Ward, acute inpatient mental health wards at The Riverside Centre (2 beds).
- Lead the collaboration with mainstream mental health services within the Borough.
- Be an active participant in the shaping of new services in light of recent and ongoing changes to the NHS, in collaboration with relevant Clinical and Service Managers.
Person Specification
Essential
- Fully registered with the GMC with a license to practice.
- Included on the GMC specialist register or within 3 months.
- Approved under section 12(2) MHA, 1983 or within 3 months.
- Approved Clinician status or within 3 months of appointment.
Desirable
- MRCPsych or equivalent.
- Registered as a Specialist in Learning Disability Psychiatry (or CCT expected within 6 months of interview date).
- Management training/qualifications.
- Recognized by Royal College of Psychiatrists as a specialist registrar trainer.
- Post-graduate qualification in a field related to Psychiatry, or child care.
Knowledge
Essential
- Up-to-date knowledge in management of adults with learning disability.
- Awareness of current issues in mental health service provision, policy and legislation.
Desirable
- Specialist interest as demonstrated by publications or presentations to learned societies.
- Knowledge of current issues in national strategic direction.
Experience
Essential
- Wide clinical experience of Learning Disability and child psychiatry.
- Experience of multidisciplinary team working.
Desirable
- Experience of multi-agency work, especially with user, carer and voluntary organizations.
- Experience in medico legal work.
- Experience in service management and development.
Skills

- High level of clinical skill.
- Ability to work constructively in multidisciplinary teams and multi-agency systems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Commitment to working with users, carers and voluntary organizations.

- Established record of clinical leadership.
