Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Benefits Assessment Officer to join our team at CRA GROUP LIMITED. As a Benefits Assessment Officer, you will be responsible for ensuring that applications for Housing Benefit, Council Tax Reduction, Discretionary Housing Payments, and Local Welfare Assistance are processed and paid promptly and correctly in accordance with legislation and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process and pay applications for Housing Benefit, Council Tax Reduction, Discretionary Housing Payments, and Local Welfare Assistance in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Resolve customer enquiries and complaints in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Provide advice and guidance to customers on welfare assistance and signpost them to other agencies for help and support as necessary.
  • Ensure that Council Tax account information is accurate and up-to-date, and resolve any discrepancies that may affect the financial award.
  • Take action to recover overpayments of Housing Benefit, Council Tax Reduction, Discretionary Housing Payments, and Discretionary Council Tax Reduction in accordance with policies and procedures.
Requirements
  • GCSE English and Maths grade A-C or equivalent.
  • Relevant assessment experience with Housing Benefit and Council Tax rebate.
  • Experience of working with customers and understanding their needs.
  • Proven ability to work with numbers and financial calculations.
  • Ability to take responsibility for quality and completion of own work within standards.
  • Flexibility and willingness to adapt to change in a busy and demanding work environment.
  • Experience of using NEC Northgate Revenues & Benefits and/or Capita Academy.
