Benefits Assessment Officer

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Benefits Assessment Officer to join our team at CRA GROUP LIMITED. As a Benefits Assessment Officer, you will be responsible for ensuring that applications for Housing Benefit, Council Tax Reduction, Discretionary Housing Payments, and Local Welfare Assistance are processed and paid promptly and correctly in accordance with legislation and procedures.
Key Responsibilities- Process and pay Housing Benefit, Council Tax Reduction, Discretionary Housing Payments, and Local Welfare Assistance applications in a timely and accurate manner.
- Resolve telephone, face-to-face, and written enquiries from residents, landlords, external agencies, and other Council departments.
- Provide advice on welfare assistance and signpost customers to other agencies for help and support.
- Ensure that Council Tax account information is accurate and resolve any discrepancies that may affect the financial award.
- Take or initiate action to recover overpayments of Housing Benefit, Council Tax Reduction, Discretionary Housing Payments, and Discretionary Council Tax Reduction in line with policies and procedures.
- GCSE English and Maths grade A-C or equivalent.
- Relevant assessment experience with Housing Benefit and Council Tax rebate.
- Experience of working with understanding and meeting the needs of customers.
- Proven ability to work with numbers and financial calculations.
- Flexible and willing to adapt to change in a busy and demanding work environment.
- Experience of using NEC Northgate Revenues & Benefits and/or Capita Academy.
