We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mental Health Senior Practitioner to join our team at South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing assessment and evidence-based interventions to children and young people with mild to moderate mental health difficulties and their parents/carers.
Main Responsibilities:- Work as a member of the Mental Health Support Team (Healthy Heads) to provide assessment and evidence-based interventions to children and young people with mild to moderate mental health difficulties and their parents/carers.
- Build relationships with education staff and key stakeholders to embed a whole school approach, promote early intervention, and develop a positive mental health culture within the school environment.
- Provide consultation advice and signposting, delivering high-quality evidence-based training and support to education providers within allocated schools.
- Develop and support the implementation of a Whole School Approach within the school setting to embed a positive emotional health culture and ethos.
- Support Education Mental Health Practitioners (EMHP) in developing their clinical skills, competence, and practice, including supporting trainee EMHPs with relevant clinical experiences.
- Work in partnership with existing services, including Universal Services (Education, Voluntary, Public, and Health sectors), Targeted Services (Education Psychology, Sexual Health, Family Intervention Team, Adult Mental Health, and Drug and Alcohol Prevention), and Specialist Services (Children and Young People's Mental Health Service).
- Provide individual and group work using therapeutic tools and models, offering consultation, advice, and signposting to ensure children, young people, and their families are referred to appropriate services.
- Contribute to the development of clear referral pathways that support the emotional health and wellbeing of children, young people, and their families.
- Develop a systematic approach to prevent children from developing mental health issues.
- Provide education and raise awareness of children's emotional and mental health issues to key stakeholders.
- Involve children, young people, and their families in reviewing current service provision and delivery.
- Identify children at risk of developing mental health issues and ascertain their needs.
- Identify coping strategies for children, young people, and their families who are considered to be at risk.
- Professional registration and qualification as a qualified Education Mental Health Practitioner.
- Experience of working in a community setting.
- A good working knowledge and experience of Safeguarding.
The successful candidate will be based locally at the Hetton Centre but will work regularly at designated schools across Sunderland.
