Senior Epidemiologist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Epidemiologist to join our team at Public Health Wales. As a key member of our Vaccine Preventable Disease Programme, you will play a critical role in developing and managing aspects of surveillance and epidemiological analysis on vaccine preventable diseases, vaccination programmes, and acute respiratory infections.
Key Responsibilities- Develop methods and processes to maintain existing surveillance systems and set up new surveillance systems using new sources of data.
- Work with senior epidemiologists to implement emerging methods in data science, such as data linkage and machine learning.
- Collaborate with microbiologists to develop new surveillance methods and support field epidemiology activities.
- Use advanced data science and statistical methods to analyze complex data and provide solutions to public health problems.
- Develop and deliver training on various topics and liaise with individuals from diverse backgrounds in different organizations.
- Line manage and/or coordinate the work of junior team members, train staff, supervise or mentor junior staff, and demonstrate specific tasks or work as required to others.

Requirements- Degree in a scientific, computing, or health-related subject.
- Masters qualification or equivalent experience in public health areas such as epidemiological methods, public health, microbiology, statistics, or data science.
- Substantial post-graduate experience of relevant scientific work, including experience of working with large and complex databases, understanding of current scientific and/or epidemiological advances, and experience of training other staff groups.
- Advanced data science and statistical methods, effective oral and written communication skills, ability to document and communicate clearly and succinctly, and excellent computer literacy, including advanced skills in Microsoft Office applications.
