We are seeking a Consultant in Geriatric Medicine who aligns with our mission to provide the Highest Quality Care through Exceptional Professionals and possesses the enthusiasm to advance our objectives, ensuring that our organization remains the preferred choice for both patients and staff.
Key Responsibilities
A Consultant-led team specializing in Geriatric Medicine has been operational for over five years, focusing on the assessment of frail elderly patients presenting with various acute conditions. The team delivers Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment in the Emergency Department and the newly established Frailty Assessment Unit, fully supported by a Multidisciplinary Team. A recent initiative includes the creation of a Same Day Emergency Care unit as part of the Acute Frailty Unit. Elderly patients anticipated to be discharged within 48 hours are admitted to a Short Stay Ward, where care is provided by the Acute Frailty Team, which includes a dedicated Consultant, a Frailty Specialist Nurse, and middle-grade staff. Additionally, there are three Frailty Base Wards and one Community Inpatient Unit. The department also supports a well-established Orthogeriatrics service and a Surgical Frailty Liaison Service. Specialist Clinics offered by the department encompass Falls and Syncope Clinic, Movement Disorder Clinic, General Frailty Clinic, and a newly launched Rapid Access Clinic for the Elderly.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to rotate through various services, gaining exposure to all subspecialties within Geriatrics. This experience significantly enhances the likelihood of successfully completing the CESR application process, with dedicated support from seasoned Consultants within the department.

Job Duties
The post-holder will collaborate within a large and diverse multidisciplinary team to provide optimal inpatient care for elderly patients.
The post-holder must ensure safe and effective transitions of patient care in accordance with Trust Governance standards.
Active participation in clinical audits is required, with the implementation of findings in alignment with Trust and Directorate policies on Clinical Governance.
The post-holder will be encouraged to work towards fulfilling the requirements and competencies necessary for entry onto the specialist Register for Geriatrics (CESR support is provided, with a proven track record of assisting candidates in their applications).

- Full GMC Registration with a license to practice
- A minimum of 12 years of medical experience, including at least six years in a relevant specialty at the Specialty Doctor and/or closed SAS grades, or equivalent.
