Senior Payroll Officer Job Description

Hays Accountancy & Finance is partnering with a Norwich-based organisation to find an experienced payroll professional to lead their newly created payroll team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in payroll management and be able to ensure the accurate and efficient processing of payroll.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support the Payroll Manager in leading the payroll team and ensuring compliance with payroll legislation and legal requirements.
  • Work with the assistant to check new starters, process leavers, and make changes to current workers.
  • Check payroll data prior to payment, including P45s, P46 forms, bank details, and prepare salary deductions.
  • Advise the payroll team and managers on payroll matters, including payroll reports.
  • Identify and implement payroll system and process improvements.
Requirements:
  • Experience as a Payroll Officer or Clerk with a strong background in payroll management.
  • Knowledge of payroll legislation and best practices.
  • Ability to resolve problems and payroll queries.
  • Formal qualification in payroll (CIPP) desirable but not essential.
What We Offer:
  • Competitive salary of circa £35,000 depending on experience.
  • Flexible hybrid working.
  • 12-month fixed-term contract with the possibility of an extension or permanent appointment.
