Our pensions actuarial division is highly regarded and well-established within the sector. We provide consultancy to a diverse array of clients, including both Trustees and Corporates, and serve a significant portion of FTSE companies through our comprehensive services.

As a Consultant in the Pensions Actuarial Department, your responsibilities will include:

  • Engaging with a variety of clients, including both trustee and corporate entities, across different scheme types and sizes.
  • Participating in client meetings alongside the client partner.
  • Occasionally presenting technical matters during client meetings.
  • Serving as a primary contact for clients on a daily basis, via phone and email.
  • Overseeing a small team of actuarial professionals to ensure timely and budget-compliant delivery of client projects.
  • Providing mentorship and training to junior actuarial staff as needed.
  • Leading core actuarial valuation tasks for funding assessments, solvency evaluations, and buy-in analyses.
  • Drafting advisory documents, either independently or utilizing templates and precedents, ensuring they meet the required standards for distribution.
  • Reviewing draft trust deeds, rules, and member communication materials.
  • Assessing individual member calculations, including transfers, early retirements, and benefit augmentations.
  • Creating factor sets for various pension calculations and specifying benefit computations for pension administrators.
  • Drafting member announcements and advising on communication strategies.
  • Conducting calculations for disclosure in corporate financial statements (under IAS19 and/or US GAAP).
  • Estimating Pension Protection Fund levies and preparing Actuarial Certificates for Deficit Reduction Contributions.
  • Developing cash flow projections for asset-liability modeling.
  • Continuously monitoring pension scheme funding levels, potentially informing dynamic investment strategies.
  • Proactively updating clients on technical advancements and anticipating their needs, while keeping the client partner informed of progress.
  • Collaborating with other advisors, both internal and external, to ensure efficient advisory delivery.
  • Assisting in responding to invitations for new business proposals and potentially participating in business presentations.

Essential Skills and Personal Attributes Required:

  • Near qualification as an FIA / FFA or relevant post-qualification experience.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Thorough understanding of all technical aspects of UK pensions work.
  • Experience supervising junior actuarial staff.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines.
