About the Role

As a key member of the James Fisher and Sons plc team, you will be responsible for recruiting, training, and deploying crew into our fleet as Officer Trainees. This role requires a strong focus on administration, communication, and budget control, with a passion for developing the skills of our future leaders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Recruitment and Training: Ensure that Officer Trainees are recruited from a diverse range of backgrounds, and provide support and pastoral care to help them achieve their full potential.
  • Tonnage Tax and SMaRT Funding: Complete tonnage tax returns and apply for SMaRT funding to ensure that funds are correctly allocated and verification audits are properly supported.
  • Training Administration: Maintain links with training establishments, provide support and guidance for Officers' refresher training, and arrange short courses as needed.
  • Development and Growth: Track and trend video and distant learning training, and arrange short courses for qualified Officers to enhance their skills and knowledge.
  • Travel and Representation: Travel to and meet with college staff to arrange courses in the UK and Europe, and represent James Fisher and Sons plc at career events.
  • Training Budget Management: Be the focal point for the training budget, maintaining spend within approved limits and ensuring effective use of resources.
Requirements
  • Experience: Proven experience in training and development or recruitment, with a strong understanding of government training grants and tonnage tax.
  • Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to create clear and concise reports. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and electronic crewing systems is also required.
  • Personal Qualities: Integrity, compassion, and a willingness to go above and beyond to support Officer Trainees and help them reach their full potential.
