Base: Edinburgh Dental Institute: Oral Surgery (4 days/week) & Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh Pathology Department (1 day/week)

The successful candidate will join our team of experienced professionals in the Oral Surgery Department, working alongside consultants, a speciality dentist, and specialty and core training grade staff. This is an excellent opportunity to gain wide, well-supported experience in oral surgery, including assessment and treatment of new patients, and to develop skills in surgical procedures such as extractions, biopsies, and treatment of complex conditions under LA, sedation, and GA.

The Oral Pathology component of the first 6-month rotation will consist of 1 day a week at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary pathology department, where the post holder will gain experience in specimen dissection, microscopic reporting, and interpretation of modern diagnostic techniques under the close supervision of a Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Pathologist.

The OMFS part of the post is based in a busy Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery unit with a dedicated ward, offering experience in the management of oncology, trauma, and facial deformity in outpatient clinics and operating lists. The post also offers experience of dento-alveolar surgery under general anaesthesia, local anaesthesia, inhalational, and intravenous sedation.

This post has deanery approval for training, and the successful applicant will receive training opportunities at the appropriate level based on previous experience. There may be a possibility to extend this appointment to the end of the training year.
