Base: Edinburgh Dental Institute: Oral Surgery (4 days / week) & Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh Pathology Department (1 day / week)

This is a fixed-term, full-time (40 hours per week) post based in Edinburgh Dental Institute. We are seeking full-time LAT colleagues to fill a total of 2 vacant posts available within the Oral Surgery Department until March 2025 and then OMFS until September 2025.

The successful candidates will join our team of 4 consultant colleagues, a specialty dentist, a PDS senior salaried specialist, and specialty and core training grade staff within Oral Surgery. The Oral Surgery part of the post gives the opportunity for assessment and treatment of new patients, allowing the post holder to gain wide, well-supported experience.

The Oral Pathology component of the first 6-month rotation will consist of 1 day a week at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary pathology department. The post holder will be able to exploit the links between oral surgery and pathology as they follow patients on their journey.

The OMFS part of the post is based in a busy Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery unit with a dedicated ward. Post holders will gain experience in the management of oncology, trauma, and facial deformity in outpatient clinics and operating lists.

This post has deanery approval for training, and the successful applicant will receive training opportunities at the appropriate level based on previous experience.

There may be a possibility to extend this appointment to the end of the training year. The extension may be at any of the hospitals on the rotation.

Requirements:

  • Deanery approval for training
  • Previous experience in oral surgery or a related field
  • Ability to work in a team environment
