Senior Clinical Fellow in General Surgery

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Clinical Fellow to join our General Surgery team at Whittington Health NHS Trust. This is a fixed-term post initially for 12 months, with the option to extend.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide high-quality patient care in a busy surgical unit, working closely with our team of trainees and consultants.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of clinical governance and quality improvement projects.
  • Engage in training and education of junior staff and medical students, sharing your expertise and knowledge.
  • Participate in research projects, collaborating with our team to advance medical knowledge and improve patient outcomes.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of three years' experience as an SHO, with experience as a Registrar in General Surgery.
  • Full registration with the General Medical Council.
  • Experience of working in the NHS.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team.

Person Specification:

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification, undertaking PhD/MD.
  • Full registration with the GMC at time of appointment.
  • Evidence of achievement of ST2, CT2 competences in a relevant specialty at time of application and likelihood of achieving ST3/CT3 competences in a relevant specialty by the start date of the post.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK.

Language Skills:

  • Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English, adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues.

Health:

  • Meets professional health requirements, in line with GMC standards in Good Medical Practice.

Clinical Skills:

  • Relevant specialty clinical knowledge, with experience in making clinical decisions and managing risk.
  • Practical skills, with aptitude for practical skills required in the job.
  • MRCS or equivalent ATLS.
