Financial Management Accountant

Employer Location: England, South Yorkshire, Rotherham

About the Company
Our client is a distinguished manufacturing firm with a rich history of over 75 years in the industry. They are looking to enhance their Management Accounting team by bringing on board a Part Qualified Management Accountant. This role involves collaborating with the Management Accounting team to deliver financial insights and reports to the Financial Controllers, while also focusing on process enhancements, system development, and business data analysis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare designated sections of the monthly management accounts, ensuring compliance with established procedures and timelines.
  • Generate additional components of the monthly accounts, including group reporting, adhering to established protocols.
  • Conduct monthly reviews, analyses, and commentary on the accounts to pinpoint variances and coordinate necessary actions with other departments.
  • Evaluate business performance and develop data to support this, providing feedback on results and forecasts.
  • Gain an understanding of the business cycle in relevant departments, including regular site visits to assess the impact of production methods on financial figures.
  • Ensure the accuracy of standard costing systems, conducting annual reviews of product standards in collaboration with production teams.
  • Maintain product codes and business reporting structures to accurately reflect gross margins.
  • Offer financial support to designated business areas, including weekly cost reviews with operations teams and product profitability assessments.
  • Perform critical weekly reviews of flash forecast estimates to ensure they are grounded in reasonable assumptions.
  • Continuously identify opportunities for improvements within the finance department and across the organization, promoting internal enhancements as Kaizens.
  • Prepare annual budgets and interim reforecasts for submission at designated intervals.
  • Facilitate the bridging of current and prior budgets/reforecasts, ensuring variances are explained and accurate.
  • Support the preparation of capital expenditure proposals, ensuring financial justifications are robust and substantiated.
  • Maintain the fixed assets register, including depreciation postings and the addition of new capital projects.
  • Assist with foreign currency hedging and cash flow preparation.
  • Prepare VAT returns, SCP returns, and EU intrastat reporting in accordance with required timelines.
  • Update the Agresso master file data ('Reference info') as per established procedures.
  • Assist with system administration tasks as needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience relevant to a manufacturing environment.
  • A desire to work within a manufacturing company and embrace the associated challenges, including processes, personnel, and deadlines.
  • Currently pursuing CIMA (or equivalent), having completed the Operational level and either starting or progressing through the Management level, with the intention of completing studies while fulfilling the role.
  • Experience in a manufacturing setting is preferred, particularly with knowledge of standard costing models.
  • Familiarity with accounting practices.
  • Awareness of the implications of operating in a multi-currency environment.
  • Proficient IT skills, particularly in Excel, including advanced formulas and possibly Visual Basic; knowledge of SQL or VBA is advantageous.
  • Understanding of spreadsheet development concepts, including documentation and error-checking to maintain data integrity.
  • Solid grasp of accounting principles to appreciate the finance department's role.
