We are seeking a highly skilled Digital Control Systems Engineer to join our team at Southern Nuclear in Birmingham, AL. As a key member of our Nuclear Fleet Engineering Plant Support organization, you will provide digital engineering expertise and analysis for our operating fleet.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support troubleshooting, testing, and field installation of Westinghouse/Emerson DCS Ovation Controls.
- Determine preventative and predictive maintenance for digital systems.
- Develop software and hardware Life Cycle Asset Management Plan and strategy to address obsolescence.
- Be actively engaged with the DCS Design Process team to ensure successful Factory Acceptance, Site Acceptance, and Post-modification testing.
- Provide technical input to the Fleet Digital Projects team regarding future development of Digital hardware upgrades and data highway infrastructure.
- Coordinate with Cyber Security Group to ensure cyber protection schemes and updates have been integrated into Digital Systems.
- Validate Digital Systems software patch management programs are implemented.
- Perform similar responsibilities for Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).
Requirements:
- Minimum 2 years' experience in digital systems testing and troubleshooting.
- Experience with software operating system configuration and installation.
- Skilled with DCS controls, software, network switches, and historians.
- Prior experience working at or closely with a DCS facility is a major plus.
- Ability to solve problems and make sound engineering decisions based on experience and industry practices.
- Develops strong teamwork with peers throughout the nuclear industry.
- Ability to travel approximately 25% for scheduled or urgent support needs.
