Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Quantity Surveyor to join our team at Vistry Group, a leading provider of affordable mixed-tenure homes. As a key member of our construction team, you will be responsible for managing all costs related to our projects, ensuring that we achieve the optimum cashflow position and maximize profitability.

Key Responsibilities
  • Optimize project costs and enhance margin and value for money while maintaining required standards and quality.
  • Manage procurement, subcontract administration, and contract documentation, including Performance Bonds, Parent Company Guarantees, and Warranties.
  • Ensure compliance with Commercial and Company procedures through the Business Management System.
  • Present and agree external valuations with clients, price and agree variations, and prepare and manage key and large risk subcontract accounts.
  • Develop and implement subcontract procurement strategies and ensure compliance with Vistry Business Management System.
  • Monitor risk and opportunity schedules, manage risk from commencement to completion, and contribute to the management of life of site cost and revenue forecasts.
  • Provide input and cost and value engineering advice throughout the design life of the scheme and attend design team meetings.
  • Manage and undertake personal development reviews of associated surveying resources, including training.
  • Ensure a proactive approach to dispute avoidance and adherence to company health and safety standards and procedures.
  • Liaise with the Customer Service department on post-completion defects, providing cost advice where necessary.
  • Attend site meetings, project team meetings, subcontractor meetings, and surveying meetings as required.
Requirements
  • Experience in quantity surveying and knowledge of construction techniques and mixed-tenure schemes.
  • Demonstrable strong account management and commercial experience.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy, coupled with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to learn new computer systems, such as Coins (Payments & Cost reporting), Viewpoint/4Projects (document storage and tender preparation).
  • Strong in-depth knowledge of groundworks, roads, and sewers.
  • Strong team player with entrepreneurial ability to operate and excel in a changing on-site environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage workload to meet set deadlines and influence others within the business to ensure best practices are shared.
  • Thorough understanding of surveying and estimating, with specific and in-depth knowledge of preparing realistic construction budgets.
  • Good understanding of strategic objectives and targeting financial return, with ability to understand and manipulate complex financial models.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages, with proficient use of Microsoft Excel an essential requirement.
