Position Overview

As a Communication Specialist at Livability Victoria School, you will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality speech and language therapy services to young adults with diverse learning challenges and complex needs.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Conduct assessments and prepare detailed reports to establish baseline data and exceptional funding requirements related to speech and language therapy for students with identified communication challenges.
  2. Provide ongoing progress reports to track student development.
  3. Collaborate with educational and therapy professionals to set aims and objectives for enhancing communication skills in alignment with students' educational health care plans (EHCPs).
  4. Design and implement specialized programs that facilitate students' access to the curriculum and support their individual learning objectives.
  5. Select appropriate vocabulary and manage both low and high-tech communication aids utilized by students, fostering their effective use within the educational environment.
  6. Plan, lead, and oversee communication sessions for student groups.
  7. Supervise the work of the Speech and Language Therapy Assistant and provide clinical guidance.
  8. Ensure compliance with professional regulations in all clinical decisions.
  9. Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and maintain close collaboration with colleagues.
  10. Review and refine the speech and language therapy management strategies for student caseloads in accordance with the school's therapy model.
  11. Act as an advisor on communication strategies to be integrated into the educational curriculum.
  12. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student progress and clinical observations.
  13. Prioritize and manage your own client workload effectively.
  14. Order necessary equipment as required.
  15. Contribute to departmental research and development initiatives.
  16. Engage in continuous professional development and ensure access to clinical supervision.
  17. Uphold confidentiality regarding all information related to students and staff.
