Speech and Language Therapist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Speech and Language Therapist to join our Community Learning Disability Team at North East London NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing, developing, and implementing Speech and Language Therapy treatment and management for adults with learning disabilities who also have communication, eating, and/or swallowing difficulties.
Main Responsibilities- To assess and develop individualized Speech and Language Therapy treatment plans for adults with learning disabilities, taking into account their complex needs and goals.
- To work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals, including doctors, nurses, and social workers, to ensure comprehensive care and support for service users.
- To provide training and education to other healthcare professionals, family members, and carers on Speech and Language Therapy techniques and strategies.
- To contribute to the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to Speech and Language Therapy services.
- To participate in quality assurance and quality improvement activities to ensure the highest standards of care and service delivery.
- A recognized professional qualification as a Speech and Language Therapist.
- Minimum of five years post-qualifying experience as a Speech and Language Therapist, including a minimum of three years in learning disability.
- Experience of working with adults with a wide range of speech, language, and/or communication needs since qualification.
- Supervision of students and staff.
- Experience of providing training/or making presentations to other professionals.
- Experience of developing interventions for dysphagia and monitoring these in the community.
- Risk Assessment and management.
- Working with a range of challenging behavior.
- Safeguarding adults and/or children.
- Successfully engaging a range of community-based partners and agencies in achieving outcomes for service users.
- Use of personal budgets to promote independence and social inclusion.
- Experience of being a Safeguarding Adults Manager (SAM) and/or Investigating Officer.
- Understanding of equality and diversity agenda.
- Up to date knowledge of contemporary health and social care legislation and DOH policy direction.
- Good understanding of risk assessment and management procedures and application of positive risk taking.
- Knowledge of the personalisation agenda and its implementation.
- Evidence of post-qualification training in SLT.
- Demonstrable skills in assessing and managing risk.
- Ability to assess complex service users with varied levels of disability and make appropriate recommendations re treatment and interventions.
