EAL Support Specialist

As an EAL Support Specialist, you will play a crucial role in providing exceptional assistance to all learners, particularly those who are navigating the challenges of English as an additional language. Your focus will be on delivering targeted interventions and supporting students during lessons to improve their educational outcomes and achievements across various levels. Upholding the values of bravery, exploration, pushing limits, and compassion is vital in this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Foster an inclusive environment for all learners.
  • Assist in the development of foundational skills and language proficiency for students with EAL.
  • Collaborate with educators to identify and address the language development needs of students.
  • Provide effective classroom support and conduct small group interventions for EAL students, helping them to realize their full potential.
  • Work alongside subject teachers to ensure optimal use of instructional materials, facilitating students' progress towards their academic goals.
  • Promote comprehensive school strategies to assist students with EAL.

Core Duties:

  • Gain insight into students' language requirements and support their journey towards becoming independent learners.
  • Ensure that EAL students have access to lessons and educational content through appropriate clarification, resources, and materials.
  • Encourage students' study habits and organizational skills, helping them to stay focused and complete assignments efficiently.
  • Monitor students' engagement with learning activities and track their progress towards established targets. Document achievements and provide feedback to educators and leadership as necessary.
  • Assist in the implementation and monitoring of student objectives.
  • Support the emotional and social development of students by modeling positive behavior and maintaining high expectations in line with the Academy's Behavior Policy.
  • Contribute to the pastoral care of students and serve as a co-tutor for a designated group.
  • Adhere to policies and procedures related to child protection, confidentiality, and data security, reporting any concerns to the appropriate personnel.
  • Participate in the review of academy policies as required.
  • Accompany teaching staff and students on educational visits and extracurricular activities.
  • Engage actively in relevant meetings.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive strategies to support students with EAL.
  • Champion school-wide initiatives aimed at enhancing support for EAL students.
