Academic Support Specialist in Science

Position Overview:

As an Academic Support Specialist in Science, you will play a crucial role in fostering a positive educational atmosphere for students. Your primary responsibility will be to assist learners, guardians, and educators in creating an environment conducive to academic success in science up to GCSE level.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate student learning by implementing tailored educational programs, setting ambitious goals, and promoting student autonomy and self-confidence.
  • Provide mentorship to students both individually and in groups, while designing and leading targeted sessions to address challenging subjects.
  • Monitor, document, and report on student performance to inform teaching strategies.
  • Support whole-class instruction as needed.
  • Participate in collaborative planning sessions to enhance curriculum understanding and development.
  • Employ strategies, in collaboration with teachers, to assist in managing classroom behavior and to help students achieve their learning objectives.
  • Encourage inclusivity by promoting student interaction and teamwork.
  • Modify and create resources for English as an Additional Language (EAL) and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) students, ensuring their safety and access to the curriculum.
  • Contribute to the development of teaching materials and classroom displays.

Candidate Profile:

  • A genuine passion for working with secondary school students.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficient in IT with a willingness to enhance digital skills.
  • A relevant degree.
  • A collaborative team player who can also work independently under guidance.
