Family Solutions Specialist

Job Summary:

The Family Solutions Specialist will play a critical role in supporting disadvantaged families with multiple and complex needs. This is a challenging yet rewarding position that requires strong communication and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to build and sustain positive professional relationships with individuals and families.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with families to build strong relationships and promote positive change.
  • Provide practical and specialist advice, as well as coordinating additional support services as needed.
  • Manage a caseload and prioritize tasks to ensure effective interventions for families.
  • Identify and mitigate safeguarding risks to children.
  • Take the lead on an area of professional practice for the team, supporting colleagues and liaising with external professionals.
  • Operate flexibly, working outside of normal office hours as needed to meet family needs.
  • Make key decisions regarding risks and concerns, referring to the Team Manager or Practice Supervisor as necessary.
  • Provide advice, guidance, and support to colleagues on thematic roles and case discussions.
  • Conduct holistic assessments of family needs, creating intervention plans and identifying outcomes that reflect family and young person views and aspirations.
  • Deliver interventions, including group work programs, to support families in making positive changes.
  • Facilitate complex family meetings, managing competing views to find achievable solutions.
  • Provide practical, personal, and emotional support to families in their homes or other settings, as part of an agreed plan.
  • Participate in regular supervision to review work and ensure effective interventions for families.
  • Embed principles of effective practice in service delivery, working collaboratively with staff and partners to ensure effective risk management.

Requirements:

  • Educated to degree level, with a minimum NVQ level 4 or equivalent in a relevant thematic specialism.
  • Significant practical experience working with families with multiple and complex needs.
  • Effective communication and problem-solving skills, with a track record of building and sustaining positive professional relationships.
