Head of Health & Safety

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Head of Health & Safety to lead our health, safety, and wellbeing initiatives. As a key member of our team, you will play a pivotal role in maximizing business effectiveness while minimizing risks and losses.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Influence strategic planning to maximize business effectiveness
  • Manage key risks identified by our risk management process
  • Formulate and promulgate corporate health, safety, and wellbeing policies, procedures, and processes
  • Directly manage professionals across three disciplines and Workplace Charter project officers
  • Lead key performance indicators related to health and safety
  • Prepare reports for Cabinet, Corporate Leadership Team, and Health and Safety meetings
  • Coordinate with Health and Safety Executive Inspectors and manage health and safety services effectively
  • Act as the lead professional officer in all workplace health and safety matters

Requirements:

  • Chartered Membership of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH)
  • Minimum of ten years' experience in a senior role within the specialist field(s)
  • Experience in influencing strategic planning and effective people management
  • Strong presentation skills (oral and written) and experience in procurement and contract management
  • Previous experience working for a Local Authority
