We are seeking a committed and passionate Senior Psychiatric Consultant with expertise in forensic psychiatry to join our dedicated team within a low secure male mental health rehabilitation and outpatient service.

This position offers flexibility, with the opportunity for part-time work. The final schedule will be tailored collaboratively with the successful candidate, balancing 7.5 hours of direct clinical care with 2.5 hours dedicated to supporting professional activities.

About the Role
LYPFT offers an enhanced starting salary for newly appointed consultants, beginning at £105,390.

This role comprises 10 Programmed Activities (PAs) plus a 3% availability for out-of-hours on-call duties.

Job Duties
The successful candidate will:

  • Hold RC responsibilities for up to 10 male inpatients under both restricted and unrestricted sections of the Mental Health Act
  • Serve as the consultant psychiatrist for approximately 15 outpatients
  • Conduct access assessments for the Humber Coast and Vale secure provider collaborative
  • Provide risk assessment and management guidance to colleagues in acute services
  • Anticipate conducting around 2 assessments per month
  • Deliver exemplary clinical leadership to the multidisciplinary team, aiding service users in achieving optimal mental health, reducing offending risks, promoting social inclusion, and facilitating community transitions
  • Provide high-quality, efficient, and effective care in a trauma-informed manner
  • Educate, train, and supervise junior medical staff and other professionals
  • Adhere to the standards set by the GMC and the Royal College of Psychiatrists
  • Participate in the Tees Esk and Wear Valley general adult on-call rota

Candidate Requirements
Qualifications
Essential:

  • MBBS degree
  • Full registration with the General Medical Council and a license to practice
  • CCT or CESR in Forensic or WAA psychiatry (with relevant experience) or expected inclusion on the GMC specialist register within the next 6 months
  • Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent
  • Approved under Section 12 (2)
  • Approved Clinician status (may be anticipated within the next 3 months)
