Role Overview:

The ideal candidate will possess a solid background in bookkeeping, particularly with XERO software, and experience in the construction industry. This position requires an individual who is both independent and collaborative, capable of managing their responsibilities effectively while also contributing to team efforts.

We offer flexible working arrangements, allowing for a schedule of 3-4 days per week initially, with the potential to expand to full-time hours as needed. We understand the importance of work-life balance and are open to accommodating personal commitments.

Key Duties:

  • Oversee bookkeeping functions for a business with approximately £1m in turnover, including managing purchase and sales ledgers, as well as credit control using Xero Accounting Software.
  • Ensure the precise and timely completion of all bookkeeping responsibilities, including payroll and CIS processes, with a solid understanding of relevant regulations.
  • Efficiently manage Reverse Charge VAT, bank reconciliations, and VAT submissions.
  • Conduct job costing and allocate expenses to various projects, maintaining oversight of the company’s cash flow.
  • Utilize Xero for diverse accounting and financial reporting tasks.
  • Exhibit strong Excel skills for effective financial data management and analysis.
  • Perform additional accounting and administrative tasks as required by the business.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience as a Bookkeeper, preferably within an SME environment.
  • Ability to work autonomously while ensuring a smooth transition with provided training.
  • Essential proficiency in Xero software.
  • Knowledge of CIS regulations and experience with subcontractor payments.
  • Familiarity with Reverse Charge VAT and experience in bank reconciliations and VAT preparation.
  • Strong reporting capabilities in Xero and good command of Excel.
