POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting directly to the Chief Design Officer, this role is essential for enhancing the design team's value from initial research and insights to the final approval for production, alongside leadership and management responsibilities.

You will engage in a variety of projects within a diverse and expanding product lineup. The focus will include, but is not limited to, accessories for mobile devices, laptops, tablets, and protective screen solutions.

As a CMF Designer, your role will be pivotal in bringing products to market. You will collaborate daily with Product Design, Category Managers, and Marketing teams, as well as Project, Engineering, and Quality Control departments. Your ability to observe and communicate evidence-based foundations for creative direction and concepts, while being aware of the broader technical, functional, cost, and manufacturing implications of your design approach, is crucial.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the development of leading CMF designs for our products from concept through various stages of development to production.
  • Assist in sourcing and maintaining a comprehensive internal library of inspirational, advanced, and relevant materials and finishes, along with CMF design masters.
  • Ideate and develop color palettes, materials, and finishes to realize compelling CMF design narratives.
  • Actively participate in the growth of the CMF function at Tech21.
  • Explore new resources for materials to enhance innovation.
  • Foster strong relationships with internal teams, including Purchasing, Finance, Quality, Engineering, and Project Teams to ensure project success.
  • Guide project teams and clients through the design process, from identifying opportunities to crafting comprehensive solutions.
  • Plan and facilitate workshops and collaborative sessions with internal teams, clients, and individuals from diverse backgrounds and areas of expertise.
  • Support new business initiatives at Tech21 and help shape proposal strategies with the business development team.
  • Work closely with the broader Product Design and Engineering teams.
  • Coordinate with partner manufacturers, often engaging in collaborative design projects, ensuring that Tech21's brand values are upheld while expanding the product range.
  • Assist in project planning and provide technical support for project execution and timelines.
  • Engage in discussions and problem-solving with manufacturing departments, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Share your expertise in strategic thinking, design research, and methodologies, facilitating collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.

Candidate Profile:

  • A degree in Textile Design, Color and Material Design, Product or Industrial Design, or equivalent (preferred).
  • Professional experience in CMF design.
  • Highly motivated and collaborative, eager to learn and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
  • Self-driven, capable of taking initiative, and able to work independently when necessary.
  • Excellent verbal and visual communication and presentation skills.
  • Exceptional color vision and attention to detail.
  • Willingness to travel if required.
  • Proficient in software tools such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, KeyShot, and Microsoft Office Suite, including PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Basic understanding of both soft and hard material developments.
  • Ability to interpret and communicate research findings, apply brand values, and articulate product features within a fast-paced product development context.
  • Deep understanding of current market trends and the ability to adapt and develop products to meet those needs.
  • Capable of articulating strategic intent and creating supporting presentation materials.
  • Understanding the context of strategic design work in relation to business strategies and current market dynamics.
