We are seeking a Lead Respiratory and Sleep Physiologist for a dynamic role that aligns with our mission to provide the Best of Care by the Best People. Key Responsibilities
This multifaceted role involves conducting a variety of routine and advanced Respiratory and Sleep Physiology assessments and treatments at Medway Maritime Hospital and in two Community Diagnostic Centres. Candidates should have specialized expertise in Respiratory and Sleep Physiology, a BSc in Clinical Physiology/Healthcare Science or equivalent, and be eligible for AHCS/RCCP registration. Holding Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) or Registered Sleep Technologist (RST) credentials is advantageous.

Job Duties
The successful candidate will provide expert clinical physiology knowledge in respiratory and sleep services, ensuring that optimal care principles are upheld for patients at Medway Maritime Hospital and the Community Diagnostic Centres.
The role requires flexibility, with the expectation of working day and night shifts based on demand, including across multiple sites.
Additional training will be provided as necessary.
Responsibilities include:
- Conducting a range of basic to complex respiratory evaluations, such as full lung function testing (Spirometry, static lung volumes, and gas transfer), bronchodilator reversibility testing, FENO, and 6-minute walk tests, along with providing comprehensive technical analysis and reporting of results for medical staff.
- Independently performing various routine and complex sleep assessments, contributing to the diagnosis and management of patients with sleep disorders, including overnight oximetry, actigraphy, limited polysomnography, and overnight polysomnography studies with MSLT as required.
- Advising patients on CPAP usage, initiating CPAP therapy, and managing follow-up consultations for patients with OSA and OHS through New Patient and Annual Review Clinics.
- Monitoring patients during overnight polysomnography studies, ensuring that recordings are of sufficient quality for accurate analysis, and making necessary adjustments to equipment during the study.
- Assessing the severity of results and promptly informing medical staff of any life-threatening or urgent findings, adhering to established procedures for managing urgent and non-urgent results.
- Ensuring the cleanliness and functionality of all sleep equipment, coordinating with EME for reporting faults and issues.
- Evaluating investigation requests to confirm there are no contraindications or risks, and assessing patients' fitness for testing.
Qualifications

- BSc in Clinical Physiology or a relevant scientific discipline
- ARTP part 1 and part 2 and/or A-Step
Desirable
- RCCP and/or RPSGT certification

- Comprehensive knowledge of Respiratory/Sleep Physiology
- Experience in conducting Lung Function Tests
- Experience in performing diagnostic Sleep Tests (Oximetry/limited polysomnography, actigraphy, full polysomnography) or equivalent

- Ability to interpret, analyze, and report on sleep studies (scoring)
