Physiotherapy Rotation Specialist

Worthing, West Sussex, United Kingdom University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust (279) Full time

Position Overview

Are you seeking a unique opportunity in the field of physiotherapy?

Do you have a passion for Musculoskeletal (MSK) and Orthopaedic care?

This part-time rotational position offers a chance to engage in various stages of patient management, from initial assessment to advanced rehabilitation of minor injuries and musculoskeletal disorders. The rotation structure includes a focus on MSK and Virtual Fracture Clinic (VFC) alongside Emergency Department (ED) responsibilities.

As a member of the VFC team, you will gain valuable experience in the acute management of non-surgical fractures while collaborating with a supportive and dynamic team. Our MSK department is a large, enthusiastic group dedicated to continuous professional development, operating across multiple sites.

Key Responsibilities

Your primary duties will include:

  • Overseeing the training and professional growth of staff within the MSK department, VFC, and ED physiotherapy practitioners.
  • Leading advanced assessments, clinical diagnoses, and treatment plans for patients referred to the Physiotherapy Outpatient Department and Emergency Department, particularly those with complex or chronic conditions.
  • Delivering high-quality patient care while supervising and mentoring physiotherapists, technicians, assistants, and students.
  • Implementing and monitoring clinical policies and standards within your area of expertise.
  • Utilizing your professional leadership skills to develop and execute comprehensive training and personal development plans for all physiotherapy staff.
  • Providing expert clinical assessment, treatment, education, and guidance in acute musculoskeletal conditions and exacerbations of chronic issues.
  • Employing advanced clinical reasoning to offer specialist support to the ED team and other healthcare professionals.
  • Participating in clinical leadership for the VFC and ED services within the Physiotherapy department.

About Us

At University Hospitals Sussex, we celebrate diversity as a core strength and strive to create an inclusive environment that prioritizes patient care. Our commitment to compassion and empathy extends to both our patients and staff, ensuring that everyone feels valued and supported.

We are dedicated to fostering a culture of learning, teaching, and training, enabling our staff to grow and excel in their careers. Our extensive Wellbeing Programme is designed to support our team members, recognizing that self-care is essential for providing exceptional patient care.

We look forward to welcoming you to our community, where your unique experiences will contribute to our innovative approach to healthcare.

Job Responsibilities

The VFC operates within the orthopaedic trauma pathway, collaborating with the Emergency Department, radiologists, and Orthopaedic Teams to manage patient care effectively. Our goal is to ensure timely access to the appropriate specialties, facilitating optimal recovery from injuries.

We engage with patients through various communication methods, and the role involves a fast-paced environment with variable caseloads based on referrals. You will have the opportunity to enhance your knowledge of acute fracture management and participate in educational sessions with healthcare professionals.

Our team conducts daily ward rounds with orthopaedic consultants and utilizes a digital system for patient management. While the primary location is within our facilities, there may be opportunities for flexible working arrangements.

Post-graduate experience in MSK is essential, along with a background in supporting or supervising students or junior staff. Experience in Orthopaedics, Emergency care, or Virtual Clinics is advantageous.

Normal working hours are Monday to Friday, with some flexibility based on service requirements and prior discussions.
