Job Title: Plant Operator

We are seeking a skilled Plant Operator to join our team at a leading Anaerobic Digestion facility in St Albans. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for maintaining and operating the plant, ensuring efficient AD processes, and contributing to a safe working environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the safe receipt of food waste deliveries and ensure the AD process runs efficiently to meet site targets.
  • Operate plant equipment such as telehandlers and other machinery.
  • Perform maintenance and safety checks as directed by the Site Manager, ensuring compliance with Environment Permit, ABPR, and PAS 110 regulations.
  • Contribute to a safe working environment.
  • Operate key systems and machinery, including the SCADA monitoring system, weighbridge, and food de-packaging machinery.
  • Maintain high levels of cleanliness on-site through general housekeeping duties.
  • Maintain accurate records as required by management, including safety, compliance, and operational data.
  • Interact professionally with clients, drivers, operational staff, and management connected to the site and deliveries.
  • Support the team with site maintenance tasks and offer assistance across other sites when necessary.
Health, Safety, and Environmental Standards:

Ensure a safe and healthy working environment by adhering to all health and safety guidelines, including the use of the Company Safety Application to report near misses and incidents.

Follow all relevant company policies, procedures, and safety systems to maintain operational excellence and regulatory compliance.

Requirements:
  • Previous experience in plant and machinery operation, specifically telehandlers.
  • Strong understanding of workplace safety regulations and compliance with environmental permits.
  • Familiarity with SCADA systems, weighbridge operations, and food de-packaging equipment.
  • Willingness to work weekends, bank holidays, and participate in the call-out/standby rota as needed.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with colleagues, clients, and visitors while maintaining exemplary behavior.
Desirable Qualifications:
  • Certification in telehandler operation or other heavy machinery.
  • Experience in the waste management or anaerobic digestion industry.
  • IT literacy to operate site monitoring systems and basic software.
