Overview

The role involves overseeing the application of relevant engineering standards throughout the design and construction phases of various projects, ensuring compliance with applicable legislation and organizational standards.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Implement and uphold organizational systems and procedures to ensure a cost-effective, high-quality, and safe methodology for design, construction, and commissioning activities associated with external projects.
  2. Evaluate the qualifications and experience of Project Engineers within the Asset Protection Team, providing necessary guidance and direction.
  3. Ensure that engineering controls and procedures are applied consistently across all projects, verifying that design and construction work meets the required standards.
  4. Assist in managing clearance proposals and external planning applications that may impact the organization.
  5. Monitor all projects to ensure adherence to organizational standards and project control procedures.
  6. Provide advice to project and program management regarding construction activities, testing, commissioning, and site oversight, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation.
  7. Assess the competence of contractors' design and construction personnel.
  8. Conduct reviews of design and construction activities, including audits of contractors to ensure safety and quality standards are maintained.
  9. Fulfill the responsibilities of Departmental Engineering Manager as required.
  10. Conduct investigations into accidents as directed by the designated competent authority.

Qualifications and Experience

To excel in this position, candidates should possess:

  • Extensive experience in engineering disciplines, particularly in construction and design across multiple areas.
  • Technical qualifications at a minimum of HND level or equivalent.
  • Membership in a relevant professional institution.
  • Experience in major contracting environments.
  • Knowledge of structuring safety cases to support projects.
  • Understanding of safety management and quality assurance principles.
  • Familiarity with independent assessment requirements for engineering works.
  • Experience in accident investigation.

Preferred Qualifications

While not essential, the following qualifications are advantageous:

  • Six Sigma Yellow Belt certification.
  • Chartered status or equivalent in the relevant discipline.
  • Awareness of environmental considerations in engineering projects.
