Overview of the Position

This role is essential in aiding the comprehensive execution of the engineering strategy and framework for the design and construction of multiple indoor substations, alongside the necessary earthworks, drainage systems, access pathways, structures, and utilities.

With recent contract acquisitions, we have expanded opportunities across the North & Central Belt of Scotland within our civil engineering, highway, and major construction teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the senior project team in the thorough execution of the engineering strategy and framework for the assigned project;
  • Oversee materials, equipment, and workforce within the designated budget and resources, ensuring their safe, effective, and efficient delivery of services on the project;
  • Ensure that all systems, design information, procedures, and quality protocols are communicated effectively;
  • Support project delivery teams by verifying the work of others and providing technical assistance;
  • Lead or assist in project assurance through conducting audits and regular meetings with project teams, identifying best practices, areas for enhancement, and concerns, including safety, financial, or quality matters;
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with relevant stakeholders, including technical consultants and suppliers, managing their contributions in the design, development, pricing, and delivery of technical solutions on-site;
  • Maintain personal expertise and knowledge to ensure that the company remains at the forefront of the industry, both technically and in utilizing the latest technologies and standards;
  • Provide coaching and motivation to the project team to achieve high performance and foster a culture of continuous improvement;
  • Ensure that engineering processes are managed efficiently to ensure they are fit for purpose from conception through installation and maintenance, considering site conditions and constraints, as well as statutory regulations and customer requirements;
  • Ensure the effective operation of procurement and material control policies and procedures, assisting in the production of accurate and current procurement schedules and cost reports as needed;
  • Utilize quality assurance principles and, where applicable, technical integrity, to ensure customer requirements are clearly understood and that quality control mechanisms are in place to assure that the asset and/or service meets design specifications;
  • Contribute to the accurate and efficient provision of weekly and monthly progress and productivity reports to senior management, in accordance with company procedures;
  • Provide clear and precise feedback on project performance against estimates to the estimating function as required;
  • Strive to understand and implement suitable digital tools to support project execution;

Support the delivery of sustainability initiatives.

Candidate Profile

  • Previous engineering experience and expertise in the relevant engineering discipline are essential;
  • Up-to-date knowledge of engineering practices and industry standards relevant to the discipline is required;
  • A degree in a relevant engineering field and a professional qualification, such as MICE or MIStructE, or an ONC/HNC is preferred;
  • A valid CSCS card is mandatory;
  • Detail-oriented with the capability to advise senior management when immediate action is necessary, coupled with the determination to ensure that required actions are taken;
  • Previous management experience in construction or related support services industries, along with a solid understanding of technical issues and trends in relevant sectors, including specialized markets, is required;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential, along with the ability to build effective relationships with partners and team members under pressure, adopting a customer-centric and flexible approach;
  • A commitment to continuously pursue innovation and development, with a focus on engineering excellence, customer satisfaction, and business success is required;

Familiarity with BIM and the ability to read and assemble BIM models and generate relevant reports is preferred.
