About the Role

MMA Offshore is seeking a highly skilled Design Engineer to join our team in delivering innovative engineering solutions for the offshore energy sector.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement innovative engineering solutions for subsea technology and marine handling equipment.
  • Conduct conceptual and detailed 3-D modeling, detailed engineering drawings, and schematics using proprietary CAD packages.
  • Perform engineering calculations to ensure the fitness for purpose of designs.
  • Optimize designs for cost-effective manufacture, including the selection of components and materials.
  • Conduct engineering analysis, primarily Finite Element Analysis.
  • Participate in in-house and client-based design reviews.
  • Review and check engineering drawings, calculations, analysis models, and documentation.
  • Compile technical documentation, including reports, calculations, specifications, parts lists, assembly, test, and operational procedures, manufacturing data.
  • Interface and provide technical liaison with other company staff, clients, and suppliers.
  • Project engineering and management of design and build projects.
  • Provide project cost estimating and monitor live budgets.
  • Liaise with third-party design verification bodies.
  • Provide offshore engineering support activities from onshore and offshore locations.
  • Provide day-to-day engineering support and advice to manufacturing and test and assembly departments.
Essential Experience
  • Minimum of 7 years of engineering design experience in subsea technology and marine handling equipment.
  • Experience should ideally have been gained in the design for manufacture environment.
  • Strong grasp of mechanical engineering subjects, particularly structural mechanics and materials technology.
  • Sound understanding of conceptual and detailed design processes for cost-effective manufacture.
  • Strong analytical skills, including Finite Element Analysis.
  • Good understanding of manufacturing processes, including machining and fabrication.
  • Good working knowledge of engineering software, such as Solidworks, Mathcad, and ANSYS Static Structural.
  • Experience of working with third-party certifying bodies as part of the design verification process.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with strong initiative.
  • Professional, reliable, and consistent approach to work.
  • Highly presentable manner.
  • Able to work independently and within small teams to agreed deadlines and priorities.
Qualifications
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Working towards or already achieved Chartered Engineer Status (desirable).
