Howden Joinery is seeking a Maintenance Engineering Team Leader for our Engineering division at our solid surface production facility.

In this role, reporting to the Maintenance Manager, you will oversee the planning, coordination, and management of maintenance and engineering tasks across manufacturing to ensure optimal asset performance, reliability, and quality enhancements.

A strong leader, you will guide a team of engineering professionals and indirectly oversee the maintenance efforts of operators, ensuring world-class asset care with the utmost focus on safety standards.

Shift Pattern: 3-week rotating shift pattern including Days and Nights

Key Responsibilities as a Maintenance Engineering Team Leader:

  • Support and lead the implementation of advanced maintenance methodologies.
  • Conduct Root Cause Analysis to drive reliability and quality improvements.
  • Facilitate practical problem-solving initiatives to reduce downtime with team members.
  • Coordinate complex fault diagnosis and escalate additional support as necessary.
  • Develop Preventive Maintenance work orders and schedules within the CMMS.
  • Establish calibration standards for critical equipment.
  • Enhance maintenance and asset KPIs as defined by the Maintenance Manager.
  • Lead critical spare parts analysis for assigned assets.
  • Manage spare parts inventory and extend the lifecycle of components.
  • Engage in design-out activities with team members.
  • Plan and allocate tasks for the maintenance team, ensuring high-quality completion.
  • Ensure maintenance interventions on critical assets are completed satisfactorily.
  • Record man hours for maintenance tasks accurately.
  • Conduct one-on-one meetings with team members to identify training needs and foster behaviors aligned with Howdens' mission and culture.
  • Coordinate and perform equipment Risk Assessments and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Lead the application of dynamic risk assessments within the maintenance team.
  • Act as the Maintenance Manager's deputy during out-of-hours to ensure safe execution of planned and unplanned activities.
  • Identify and implement safe working practices.
  • Recognize and mitigate risks associated with equipment.
  • Ensure timely completion of statutory maintenance work orders and provide feedback in the CMMS.
  • Manage and coordinate contractor activities through Permit to Work systems.

Qualifications for the Maintenance Engineering Team Leader:

  • Formal Health and Safety qualification
  • CIEH Level 3 Health & Safety
  • NEBOSH General Certificate (preferred)
  • HNC in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • Experience in Continuous Improvement
  • Supervisory experience
