MHR Consultancy Ltd is a leading provider of accounting services, specializing in personal tax, statutory accounting, tax planning, management accounts, payroll, and book-keeping. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced individual to join our team as a Payroll Specialist/Bookkeeper.

Key Responsibilities

Payroll (70% of duties)

  • Support a designated set of clients with payroll administration, including SMP/SSP rules and Auto-Enrolment/Workplace Pensions.
  • Collate timesheets and input relevant payroll information into IRIS payroll software on a monthly basis.
  • Communicate effectively with clients regarding changes and provide general advice.
  • Process SMP and SSP, as well as advise clients on processes and figures.
  • Year-end process and pension administration.
  • Maintain The Pension Regulator database and deal with procedural queries from clients and their employees.
  • Set up new pension schemes for employers and re-enrolment of pension schemes.

Bookkeeper (30% of duties)

  • Process client paperwork, including supplier invoices, customer invoices, and bank reconciliations, into Sage/Xero or QuickBooks.
  • Manage supplier and customer accounts, including credit control and liaising with clients over unpaid debt.
  • Reconcile supplier accounts and address any issues with clients.
  • Perform other reasonable management requests related to the role.
Requirements

Essential

  • Experience in payroll administration, including SMP/SSP rules and basic understanding of Auto-Enrolment/Workplace Pensions.
  • Confident use of IRIS Payroll systems (Bureau and/or Staffology).
  • Attention to detail and proficiency in Microsoft Office skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage own time effectively.
  • Experience in book-keeping, including supplier/customer invoicing and bank reconciliations, on Sage or Xero or QuickBooks.

Preferable

  • Experience in processing re-enrolments with The Pensions Regulator and setting up new schemes.
  • Credit control experience.
Working Arrangements

Hours and Pay

  • Initially 15 hours per week, with the possibility of increasing to 20 hours within a few months.
  • Rate of pay - £22k per annum FTE, rising to £24k per annum FTE after three months' probation.
  • Initially office-based in Farnborough, with the option to work from home after a short period.
  • Driving licence and access to a car are essential.
  • Holiday pay is 25 days per annum plus bank holidays, pro-rated for the number of hours/days worked.
  • DBS check (MHR cost) will be performed upon appointment.
