Automation Service Engineer (EICA)

We possess extensive expertise in both offshore and onshore facilities, specializing in asset management services throughout all life cycle phases, from consulting and engineering to manufacturing, assembly, operations, maintenance, and decommissioning.

This role offers a home-based opportunity (remote working), where you will be responsible for providing 24/7 remote and onsite support to a diverse client base on a rotational basis. Flexibility and comfort with working away from home are essential.


Main Responsibilities

  • Operate various PLC/PC software application automation packages and utilize programming tools to diagnose faults in automated systems.
  • Connect remotely to clients' PC/PLC/SCADA applications across multiple platforms, diagnosing issues on unfamiliar applications while collaborating with clients to resolve problems.
  • Identify engineering scope changes and effectively manage the change control process.
  • Ensure reports are comprehensive, detailing root causes and resolutions.
  • Survey automation systems and deliver adoption/obsolescence reports, advising clients on risks and upgrade paths.
  • Conduct estimates for automation small works and repairs, considering hardware scope and labor hours.
  • Engage with clients and observe production sequences, providing insights to improve failure rates and productivity.
  • Select and specify PLC/HMI/SCADA hardware and software.
  • Adhere to all Bilfinger UK safety regulations and create effective Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS).
  • Follow all Bilfinger UK company processes and procedures.
Qualifications and Experience

  • Completion of an engineering apprenticeship.
  • Experience in maintenance and/or commissioning roles, with the ability to troubleshoot across various PLC manufacturers and types.
  • Capability to make minor modifications to PLC code and systems, including changing PLC cards, identifying issues, and rectifying coding problems.
  • Ability to connect and back up PLC and HMI software applications, managing storage and sharing as required.
  • Proficient in performing PC health checks, replacing hard drives, and backing up/restoring applications.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Able to work under pressure and independently, as well as supervise small teams on specific projects.
Preferred Qualifications and Experience

  • Familiarity with detailed EICA specifications and understanding of scopes of work, including EICA design drawings and schedules.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity principles, including layers of protection, with the ability to conduct high-level assessments and provide recommendations for system hardening.
  • Experience in selecting and specifying general low voltage electrical items, such as distribution equipment and protective devices.
  • Experience in selecting and specifying various equipment types, including converters, barriers, indicators, and junction boxes.
  • Knowledge in selecting and specifying instrumentation equipment for flow, pressure, level, temperature, and analytical measurements.
  • Ability to connect to operational networks using diagnostic tools to assess network health and provide recommendations.
