Job Summary:

The University of Nottingham is seeking a skilled Precision Engineer to join our School of Chemistry Workshops team. As a key member of our technical team, you will work collaboratively with academic colleagues, researchers, and other technical staff to design, develop, and maintain scientific equipment for research activities across various themes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and construct scientific equipment to precise tolerances using various engineering materials and techniques.
  • Maintain Health and Safety standards throughout all aspects of your work.
  • Undertake projects to design, manufacture, and provide ongoing development of research and departmental equipment.
  • Provide engineering technical support to ensure day-to-day operational needs are met.
  • Support Outreach, Public Engagement, and Knowledge Exchange activities.
  • Undertake maintenance and support of workshop equipment.
  • Provide advice and solutions on technical specification requirements for advancing research areas.

Requirements:

  • The ability to undertake a range of practical and technical support activities to solve various queries and issues.
  • Accuracy, reliability, and the willingness and adaptability to learn new skills and procedures.
  • A good level of IT skills, including MS Office suite and AutoCAD/Fusion software.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organisational, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of the use and maintenance of typical engineering workshop equipment.
  • HNC or equivalent, with substantial work experience in a relevant role or a proven track record with extensive work experience in a relevant technical or scientific role.
