Job Summary

The Francis Crick Institute is seeking a highly skilled Laboratory Research Scientist to join our team. As a Laboratory Research Scientist, you will be responsible for conducting research and experiments in a laboratory setting, working closely with other scientists and researchers to advance our understanding of biomedical research.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct research and experiments in a laboratory setting, using a variety of techniques and equipment.
  • Collaborate with other scientists and researchers to design and implement research projects.
  • Develop and maintain laboratory databases, order laboratory supplies, and monitor budgets.
  • Train and supervise other laboratory members in key techniques and protocols.
  • Participate in academic activities, including group meetings and journal clubs, seminars, and scientific meetings.
  • Write risk assessments and SOPs, and provide safety guidance to laboratory members.
  • Extract bone and tooth powder from skeletal material, prepare genomic libraries, and perform targeted capture of genomic DNA.
  • Handle, ship, and catalogue skeletal samples, and perform manual first molecular digestion steps.
  • Participate in scientific meetings within the group and wider community.

Requirements

  • BSc in Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with molecular biology laboratory work.
  • Ability to communicate and present data.
  • Experience with the use of databases.
  • Experience with bioinformatics processing of genomic sequence data.
  • Experience in DNA library preparation methods and high-throughput sequencing.
