Role Summary:
- The Community Swim and Women's swim initiative provides an affordable, locally accessible opportunity for children and young individuals aged 5-15, as well as women and girls aged 16 and above, to learn and enhance their swimming abilities. This program operates on Tuesday and Thursday evenings during term time.
- The Leisure Team is dedicated to benefiting the local community through sports and leisure activities. We pride ourselves on our expertise and customer experience, ensuring inclusivity through affordable or complimentary programs that reach those in need.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accountable to the Sports Development Officer for delivering and assisting swimming lessons in accordance with Swim England guidelines, catering to children aged 5-15 of varying abilities and women aged 16 and above.
- Ensure the safety of participants in and around the pool area.
- Assist the lead swim instructor in planning, preparing, delivering, and evaluating swimming lessons while adhering to Swim England standards.
- Maintain regular communication with the Sports Development Officer regarding session details, including challenges and successes.
- Comply with Enable Leisure and Culture's human resources policies.
- Commit to evening work during term time.
- Adhere to Health & Safety regulations to ensure a safe working environment for all staff, participants, and contractors.
- Engage in professional development by identifying relevant training opportunities.
- Understand and uphold responsibilities related to safeguarding children and young people, ensuring any concerns are communicated to the appropriate staff member.
Qualifications:
- Possess a SEQ Level 1 or Level 2 Swimming Teaching qualification.
- Demonstrate a solid understanding of the Swim England curriculum.
- Have knowledge of safeguarding vulnerable individuals and its significance in the role of a swimming instructor, exhibiting integrity and a willingness to pursue necessary training.
- Experience supervising swimming lessons in leisure or competitive environments is preferred.
- Experience in casual or freelance coaching/instructing is advantageous.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team setting.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of engaging with colleagues, children, young individuals, and the public.
- Ability to manage behavior to ensure sessions are enjoyable and inclusive.
- Capability to contribute to the development of training programs and sessions for groups.
