Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team on a contract basis in Yeovil. As a key member of our design team, you will be responsible for supporting the development of concept designs, including analysis, with a keen awareness of manufacturing methodologies and a focus on cost.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support the development of concept designs, including analysis, with a focus on manufacturing methodologies and cost.
  • Contribute to the creation of detailed designs, layouts, and drawings to meet customer requirements and specifications.
  • Collaborate with production engineering and production planning to achieve a design/detail package best suited to production.
  • Support engineering change requests and process deviation/waivers as needed.
  • Deliver against project schedules and meet project milestones while working within a multi-project team environment.
Requirements:
  • Strong experience in a similar role, with a mechanical engineer/designer background in the use of both 2D and 3D CAD.
  • 2-5 years' experience of CAD, ideally in the field of precision components.
  • Basic understanding of configuration control, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), and six sigma principles.
  • Knowledge of machining and other manufacturing techniques, as well as generic engineering and/or thermodynamic principles.
  • Ability to work in a flexible environment and stretch beyond comfort zones.
