About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Animal Care Specialist to join our team at Charles River. As an Animal Care Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the health and well-being of animals in our care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to and monitor the welfare of all animals within each colony, recording clinical signs.
  • Water and feed the animal colonies.
  • Carry out routine husbandry and housekeeping, including cleaning cages, areas, and tools thoroughly.
  • Assist in isolator recycling following strict hygiene procedures.
  • Perform weaning, sexing, and identification, genotyping procedures.
  • Monitor and report on project production levels with GEMS Project Co-ordinators.
  • Prepare and pack orders at customers' request and according to packing process.
  • Follow customer colony maintenance instructions accurately.
  • Record required data as per procedures.
  • Complete forms, cage cards, and other paperwork/data in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Provide cover for other team members as needed.
  • Participate in training sessions and actively identify and utilize training opportunities.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement.
Requirements
  • Education to degree level or equivalent, including Animal Technician level 2, or other animal-related qualifications.
  • Good understanding of Home Office and accreditation body guidelines.
  • Home Office personal licensee training Modules A&B, or Home Office Personal License previously held.
  • Knowledge and experience of licensed procedures.
  • Own means of transport or reliable means of making own way to work.
