About the Placemaking Team
The Croydon Council Placemaking Team is a distinguished, multidisciplinary group of built environment experts with experience ranging from strategic planning to detailed design and implementation. This team operates within the council's Strategic Planning and Regeneration directorate, engaging in urban design, architecture, public engagement, and cultural initiatives.
Recognized for its exemplary work in proactive planning, the team provides a wide array of design and placemaking services to both internal and external stakeholders. This includes developing long-term local plans, championing heritage, collaborating with developers and communities to create high-quality spaces, and enhancing the identity and perception of places.
Role Responsibilities
The selected candidate will coordinate and support the Croydon Urban Room project, which serves as a physical and digital platform for public engagement, fostering meaningful connections between individuals and their environment.
We seek individuals with innovative, design-focused approaches to community and stakeholder engagement, event management, and exhibition curation. Ideal candidates will be independent, critical thinkers and adept project managers with a proven track record in developing and executing public-facing creative and cultural initiatives.
Qualifications and Skills
- Strong negotiation and communication skills in public-facing contexts.
- Proficiency in space management and event production.
- Experience in marketing, graphic design, web and social media management, and community outreach.
- Knowledge of funding, bid writing, and contract management.
- Ability to foster partnerships across various sectors.
An understanding of the Croydon context, along with insights into the challenges and opportunities facing town centers and urban design, is desirable.
