Inmate Support Counselor

Job Responsibilities
Delivers extensive case management services by ensuring that all pertinent classification documentation is completed accurately and promptly. Ensures that inmates are suitably engaged in work during their incarceration. This role emphasizes adult inmate release strategies and encompasses case management and counseling, including classification processes. Encourages personal and professional development for both self and colleagues through training initiatives. Serves as a mentor by offering guidance and direction to inmates within a correctional environment, thereby enhancing facility security and fostering long-term positive social behaviors.
Essential Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required. Experience in counseling, rehabilitation, or case management is essential. Proven experience in facilitating rehabilitative programs and preparing reports is necessary. A solid understanding of counseling principles, casework methodologies, behavior modification techniques, and inmate rehabilitation strategies is expected. Demonstrated capability to counsel and engage with inmates to formulate, execute, and monitor treatment plans, along with effective verbal and written communication skills.
Additional Considerations
Advanced knowledge in Social Services, Counseling, Criminal Justice, or related fields is preferred, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Prior experience in adult counseling or correctional settings is advantageous. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, and Excel) is required. Certification in specialized areas, such as Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC) or Certified Sex Offender Treatment Provider (CSOTP), is beneficial. Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply. Familiarity with evidence-based practices and experience in facilitating programs for both staff and inmates is a plus.
