Our mission is to deliver therapeutic services to both adult and pediatric patients, aiding them in regaining mobility, independence, and an enhanced quality of life. Your role will involve daily interactions in both inpatient and outpatient environments as part of a dynamic team serving various clinical areas. A background in healthcare or experience working alongside Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists is essential, as this position requires engagement in a bustling hospital setting with patients, families, and multidisciplinary professionals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Offer administrative support to ensure the smooth operation of the therapy team.
  • Help maintain a safe and organized work environment.
  • Engage in Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and other relevant training activities.
  • Work under the guidance and supervision of the assigned Physiotherapist or Occupational Therapist while also demonstrating initiative.

Job Duties

  • Execute designated procedures and tasks assigned by the therapist, ensuring competency in interventions for both adult and pediatric patients. It is a shared responsibility between the therapy assistant and the supervisor to ensure the assistant is confident in performing required duties.
  • Guide patients and caregivers in various physical activities as directed by the physiotherapist or occupational therapist, encouraging active participation in their recovery.
  • Conduct home visits, supervising and assisting patients with their treatment plans as instructed by the therapists.
  • Support physiotherapists and occupational therapists in specific treatment plans, which may require regular manual handling of patients with significant physical disabilities.
  • Independently manage treatments referred by therapists, including scar management techniques and exercise programs.
  • Communicate regularly with ward therapists regarding anticipated therapy assistant contributions to daily workloads.
  • Prepare equipment for therapists during treatment sessions or for use in home settings to promote patient independence.
  • Provide advice on the safe use of equipment to patients and their families.
  • Oversee the maintenance and cleanliness of therapy equipment and treatment areas in line with health and safety policies.
  • Participate in the organization and cleanliness of clinical spaces, ensuring compliance with departmental procedures.
  • Assist in the procurement and management of therapy supplies as necessary.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding patient information and adhere to Trust policies.
  • Engage in mandatory training and participate in staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Travel to various sites and patient homes as required, ensuring the safety of patients and equipment during visits.

Communication Skills

  • Utilize effective communication skills with patients and caregivers from diverse backgrounds, including those with communication challenges.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members, external agencies, and family members involved in patient care.
  • Handle patient inquiries with professionalism and empathy, addressing concerns to prevent complaints.

Working Environment

  • Adapt to a dynamic work environment with frequent interruptions from staff, patients, and phone calls.
  • Be prepared for potential exposure to challenging working conditions, including confined spaces and hazardous materials.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with the public and patients of all ages in healthcare or educational settings.
  • Good general educational background, including qualifications in Maths and English.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team and proficient use of computer software.
