Position Overview
Burscough Family Practice is on the lookout for a Clinical Receptionist who is eager to enhance their expertise in clinical functions, particularly in Phlebotomy and Blood Pressure Monitoring. This role encompasses 34 hours of work per week across four days.
As a small, welcoming practice serving nearly 3000 patients, we emphasize teamwork and collaboration.
We seek an individual with a solid background in customer service and outstanding communication abilities. The capacity to perform under pressure, manage conflicts, and demonstrate self-motivation is essential for success in a General Practice environment.
While prior experience is advantageous, it is not mandatory as comprehensive training will be provided.
Starting salary ranges from £ to £ per hour.
Key Responsibilities
The primary objective of this role includes:
- Providing general support to the practice team while maintaining a positive and welcoming demeanor towards patients and visitors, whether in person, over the phone, or via email.
- Assisting and guiding patients in accessing the appropriate services or healthcare professionals in a courteous and efficient manner.
- Carrying out various administrative tasks to ensure the practice operates smoothly, including offering secretarial and clerical support to clinical staff and other team members.
- Conducting basic clinical assessments to aid General Practitioners (GPs) and Practice Nurses in evaluating patients.
- Facilitating effective communication among patients, primary healthcare team members, secondary care, and other relevant healthcare organizations.
About Our Practice
Burscough Family Practice is a high-performing, well-managed, innovative, and supportive small practice located centrally in Burscough, Lancashire.
We take pride in valuing our staff and fostering development at all levels.
Our team comprises 1 GP Partner, 3 GPs, a Practice Nurse, and a General Practitioner Assistant (GPA), all supported by our Medical Reception Team. We expect our reception staff to also perform basic clinical assessments, procedures, and coding.
In addition to GP and Nursing appointments, the Practice provides enhanced services to the local Primary Care Network, including Minor Surgery and Sexual Health Services, some of which may occur outside standard hours.
The Practice is conveniently accessible via main transport routes, and there is ample public parking available.
Job Duties
The responsibilities of the reception team may include, but are not limited to, the following tasks. Duties may be adjusted periodically under the management team's guidance, depending on the current workload and staffing levels:
- Opening and securing practice premises while adhering to security protocols.
- Managing and monitoring the practice's appointment system.
- Processing personal and telephone requests for appointments, visits, and consultations, ensuring callers are directed to the appropriate healthcare professional.
- Handling incoming and outgoing mail efficiently.
- Taking messages and relaying information as necessary.
- Organizing and retrieving paperwork as required.
- Processing repeat prescriptions in line with practice guidelines.
- Entering and managing data on computer systems, ensuring compliance with practice procedures.
- Initiating and responding to communications from patients, team members, and associated healthcare providers.
- Preparing consulting rooms and ensuring they are stocked appropriately.
- Providing clerical support to practice staff as needed, including data processing, filing, and scanning.
- Ordering and monitoring supplies and stationery.
- Managing clinical waste appropriately.
- Conducting basic clinical assessments such as phlebotomy, blood pressure measurements, and urine analysis.
- Providing refreshments for staff and visitors as required, while maintaining cleanliness in the kitchen area.
- Ensuring the reception area, notice boards, and leaflet dispensers are tidy and organized.
Qualifications
Essential
- A good standard of general education, with English and Maths GCSE Grade C or above.
Desirable
- Level 2 Diploma in Care.
- Customer Service Qualification.
- Knowledge of Medical Terminology.
Experience
Essential
- Familiarity with computer software, including Microsoft applications.
- Experience in customer service roles.
Desirable
- Experience working in a GP Practice in a Reception or Healthcare Assistant capacity.
- Prior use of clinical systems, ideally EMIS.
- Knowledge of conducting basic clinical assessments such as phlebotomy and blood pressure monitoring.
