About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Consultant Haematologist to join our team at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust (279). As a Clinical Lead, you will be responsible for providing expert clinical care to patients with blood disorders and haematological malignancies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide inpatient care for haematology patients up to and including BCSH level 2B.
  • Attend clinics for new and follow-up patients, participate in MDT and departmental meetings, and contribute to audit and guideline production.
  • Complete patient-related administrative duties in a timely manner, including bone marrow and blood film reporting, safe intrathecal chemotherapy administration, and support for Sprs in bone marrow aspiration and biopsy.
  • Provide consultative advice to healthcare professionals within the hospital and primary care settings.
  • Participate in clinical trials and maintain good clinical practice.
  • Act as a leader within the department, championing the goals of the department and the organisation as a whole.
Person Specification

We are looking for a candidate with the following qualifications and experience:

  • Basic medical degree
  • Postgraduate qualification or appropriate specialist qualification
  • Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice
  • CCT in Specialty or equivalent (equivalence must be confirmed by GMC by date of AAC)
  • Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry within 6 months of the date of the AAC
Desirable Qualifications and Experience

We would also like to see the following qualifications and experience:

  • Higher degree
  • Broad haematological experience and expertise to include haemato-oncology, general haematology, haemostasis and thrombosis, transfusion medicine, and laboratory expertise
  • Proficiency in obtaining bone marrow aspirate and trephine samples
  • Expertise in reporting bone marrow aspirate and blood film samples
  • Proficiency in removal of Hickman lines
  • Proficiency in safe administration of intrathecal chemotherapy
