This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated senior nurse or midwife to join our team as an Associate Director of Nursing and Midwifery on a permanent basis. Reporting directly to the Director of Nursing and Midwifery, the role involves supporting the operational unit in achieving its shared objectives.

The Associate Director of Nursing and Midwifery will have professional line responsibilities to core Quality and Safety business areas, including workforce planning, Health and Wellbeing, governance and assurance, and Infection, Prevention and Control. You will provide leadership to ensure the nursing and midwifery workforce develops and delivers high-quality, safe, person-centered, and compassionate care to the people we serve.

This will be achieved by ensuring nursing and midwifery care is delivered through evidence-based practice and interventions consistently across our service areas. The Associate Director of Nursing and Midwifery will ensure effective communication systems are in place for the communication of professional nursing and midwifery issues, advice, and professional leadership within their sphere of responsibility, reflecting our organization's values and vision.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and implementation of nursing and midwifery strategies to improve patient care and outcomes.
  • Provide professional leadership and guidance to nursing and midwifery staff to ensure high-quality care is delivered.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure effective communication and coordination of care.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders, including patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of organizational policies and procedures.

Requirements:

  • Proven track record of senior nursing or midwifery leadership experience.
  • Successful experience of managing patient safety, service improvement, and quality.
  • Ability to integrate professional nursing perspectives with service strategy.
  • Registered Nurse/Midwife with post-registration experience gained in a variety of nursing environments.
  • Registered on Sub-part 1: Registered Nurse or Registered Midwife of the NMC Register.

Working Hours:

37 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with an on-call commitment and rostered weekend working. NHS Scotland is reducing its full-time working week from 37 hours, and this reduction will be applied pro rata for part-time staff.
